Zofia Chomętowska. “Small Things”, 04.10 – 26.10

October,  4 – 26, 2018, the Belarusian National History Museum

Since 2010 the fund “Archeology of Photography” has been taking care of the archive of Zofia Chomętowska, one of the most important female photographers of the interwar period. The vast collection with about 6,500 negative and 4,500 positive images does not have many exhibition prints. The exposition “Small Things” shows a few dozens of them. The photographs made in 1928-1933 present Zofia Chomętowska’s family estate in Porochońsk. The exhibition includes numerous photographs of landscapes made in the “pictorial” aesthetics with Leica camera and the documentation of the local residents’ lives.

The presentation is accompanied by a screening of the film “I am shooting.” This unique material was assembled from fragments of Chomętowska’s films from the end of the 1920s, which show the photographer’s personal life, her family and friends.
