A lecture-presentation by the curator of “C/O Berlin” Ann-Christin Bertrand “C/O Berlin. Diversity and Equality — Straight Forward”

“C/O Berlin”, David von Becker

Since 2000, C/O Berlin has presented a lively, cultural programme with an international standing. As an exhibition venue for photography, C/O Berlin shows works by internationally renowned artists, promotes emerging talent and accompanies children, youths and adults on visual journeys of discovery through our image culture. C/O Berlin is a non-profit foundation and excels in innovative cultural management. A wide range of learning opportunities and intensive educational work on location, as well as close cooperation with institutions and museums worldwide, make C/O Berlin a unique centre for collaborative exchange.

The lecture presents the particular history and programme of C/O Berlin, and gives an insight into how a formerly private institution became a non-profit foundation and is succeeding in financing itself by a carefully planned exhibition programme and a diverse system of sponsoring and marketing.

The second part of the lecture will focus especially on presenting the C/O Berlin Talents programme, an annually-held competition for young contemporary photographers and art critics. Launched in 2006, with this series C/O Berlin supports emerging photographers and critics on the threshold between their educational and professional life. An international jury selects four winners per year, each of them obtaining a solo exhibition accompanied by a publication. This programme, exceptional in Europe, is a creative campus for many young artists and the starting point for further international exhibitions.

The photographers Daniel Seiffert and Iveta Vaivode take part in the lecture.
