“Regarding the different appearances of daily life, the main aspect of this lecture/seminar is a visual research on the “landmarks”, made by city residents in their subtile and obvious facettes.

(Re-)arranging, creating and composing the urban space is based on individual and public habits, mostly directed by personal needs and intentions. The results are subtile and sustainable modifications of the city architecture and public spaces”.

“Order as social form” is a current part of Manuel Schroeders lectures in “social photography”, a field of research he is realizing with universities, schools, art societies and museums since 2006.

Manuel Schroeder (*1962) is working as photographer and artist in different fields of audiovisual and crossmedial projects. Inspired by appearances of the urban daily life in context of the urban architecture his creative research is transforming humanistic aspects into artwork and art concepts. Based on photography, his artwork is realized in different and developed ways of media, like straight photography, motion pictures, video art, projections in public spaces, printed media, (de)collage and paintings. Through exhibitions, art forums, public interventions, symposiums and lecturings, Manuel Schroeder is international cooperating with art associations and institutes, Museums, galleries, academies and schools.

At the end of the workshop, each participant receives a certificate. The participants should use
their own equipment. The language of the workshop is English.

10 October (Saturday)
12:00 – 13:30 — theory: opening, introduction, discussion of the main theme of the workshop.
Work in small groups discussing the selected or imaginary sub-theme. Formulation of tasks and preparation for the practical part of the workshop.

13:30 – 17:00 — first practical part of the workshop (social photography). Exploration, search for places in the city on a given topic and fixing them. Work in groups of 2 or 3 people.

11 October (Sunday)
12:00 – 13:30 — presentation of the photographs made the day before and discussion.
13:30 – 17:00 — main practical part of work on exploring the city. Creating a data archive.

12 October (Monday)
12:00 — viewing the photographs made the day before. Creation of a collective presentation in PowerPoint. Summary and discussion. Handing over certificates.
